Countdown to Christmas: Old Fashioned Christmas
Merry Christmas! I’m Deborah Jacobs of Gathering Friends Quilt Shop. Our quilt shop has been in existence for almost 20 years and we carry many of Moda's gorgeous lines. My “Old Fashioned Christmas ” block is a fun and easy addition to Moda Bake Shop’s Countdown To Christmas. Hope you are all staying up to date making your blocks!
This block finishes at 6" (6 ½" unfinished).
Fat Quarter of White fabric
Fat Quarter of Red fabric
Fat Quarter of Green fabric
CUTTING:
From white:
- (2) 2½" squares
- (8) 2" squares
From red :
- (1) 3½" square
- (4) 2" x 3½" rectangles
From green:
- (4) 2" squares
- (2) 2½" squares
ASSEMBLY:
Position a 2" green square on opposite corners of a 3½" red square. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner and stitch on the line. Trim seam allowance to ¼" and press the seams toward the green. Repeat on remaining corners. Proof to 3½". Make 1 center .
Position a 2" white square on one end of a 2" x 3½" red rectangle. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner and stitch on the line. Trim seam allowance to ¼" and press the seams open. Repeat on the opposite end. Proof to 2" x 3½". Make 4 flying geese.
Layer a 2½" white square and a 2½" green square, right sides together. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner. Stitch ¼" on each side of the line.
Cut on the line. Press seams toward the green. Proof to 2". Make 4 pieced squares.
Sew a pieced square to each end of the flying geese. Press seams toward the flying geese. Make 2. Sew a flying geese to each side of the center. Press seams toward the flying geese. Sew the units together, as diagrammed. Press seams away from the center. Proof square to 6½".
