The original version of this project was made with patrotic prints. For this remix, we're showing you how it looks in a totally different color palette, featuring Bee Garden by Gingiber which has just arrived in shops. Check out the other mock ups I have to share at the end of this post, too. This is a fun one for any holiday ... even Halloween - think purple & orange stars with black & white stripes. Or change the stars from blue to green with red & white stripes and it becomes Christmas!
This project uses a sawtooth star blocks, but is constructed a little different than in a typical square block. Be sure to follow the pattern instructions closely for the number of units to make with each background color so that the striped background works when assembled.
Once you have all the components, you'll assemble them into strips. And then sew the strips together.
I love how the striped background adds so much interest to this project without being overly complicated to piece. Depending on your fabric selections, the stripe can be a subtle effect, like with these low volumes, or can be more noticeable like with the red and white in the original version.
I really love to play with differences in background prints and you may notice this in several of my other patterns, too. :)
I quilted this one with wavy lines in a light taupe thread to match one of the background prints.
You can see the quilting a little better on the back. And isn't the detail in thie bee print so amazing!
Gingiber really has a way with her animal and insect designs.
I have included a couple of mock ups in other new collections arriving to shops this month: Sacre Bleu by French General and Star Spangled by April Rosenthal. Which one is your favorite?
If your local shop is carrying one of these collections, ask them to kit one up for you or help you select prints from another collection that catches your eye!
Next month, we will be making the Sweet Sentiments pattern. I can't wait for you to see it in totally different colors! See you back here on April 17th for our next installment of the Table Runner Club Series.
